I always say the real best practice is to test the idea/practice with your audience and then make decisions based on what the test reveals.  For example, many will say (including me) do not send emails that are basically just images, but many of the most successful programs do (e.g. Omaha Steaks or Victoria&#039;s Secret) because that works for their audience.
