As the weather begins to turn cooler here in the mountains of Utah, I figured it was time to put together another collection of links on email, business, and the theories about it all. Here we go:
- Word to the Wise Blog – “The hidden cost of email blasts.” @wise_laura talks about Seth Godin and the costs of email blasts. Reminds me a bit of my identification of “Blast” as the naughtiest word in email marketing.
- Blue Sky Factory Blog – “Top 5 Most Common FAILS of Email Marketing.” @ElenaH13 shares the most common failures in email marketing, my favorite being “But I sent to this list last year.” Classic.
- BeRelevant B2B Blog – “Tactics for Reactivating Non-Responders.” @tamaragielen offers three great tactics for targeting the possibly “emotionally unsubscribed.” Good stuff here.
- ClickZ - “Seven Signs You Need to Revive Your Permissions Database.” Jeanniey Mullen reminds us all why it’s important to keep constant tabs on your database. In fact, did you know 30% of your email list won’t receive your messages because their ISPs will incorrectly block them? I didn’t. Check this out.
After the jump, more links and a cartoon…
More links for you:
- Anything Goes Marketing – “Email Marketing Metrics You Should Be Tracking.” @chadhorenfeldt recommends additional metrics to be covered, including automated email metrics. Interesting read here.
- Idea Sandbox - “An Email from My Book.” @IdeaSandbox receives an email from the book he had on order. Very cool concept. Something to consider for retailers.
- Seth Godin’s Blog – two great posts from @ThisisSethsBlog. The first is an interesting post on how the world would be if “TV ads were free.” The second is a great reminder on “Things to ask before you redo your website.”
Lastly, in a little bit of a shout-out to my current state of affairs at work (read: crazy busy), Tom Fishburne talks about setting priorities. Along with the below cartoon:

Thanks for the shout out Scott! Plus all of the other recommendations. I’ll be sure to keep this list on hand for my own reference and to pass along to clients in need.

p.s. the cartoon is priceless!
