For those of you who are daily or at least frequent readers of this blog (thank you very much, BTW!), you’ve probably noticed by now that the topics I cover in my posts tend to run the gamut a bit. I’ve talked about email marketing (my work-related passion), my impending fatherhood, mix CDs, movies, golf, even a bit of politics. And if I were a subscriber to the notion that in order to be successful blogger, I must choose a focus… well then I’m screwed.
There’s a reason I call the blog Scott Writes Everything (.c0m (said in my best “Peanut” impression–Jeff Dunham–ventriloquist comedian–look him up if you don’t know who I’m talking about). I’ve written just about every type of marketing piece there is. And I want to cover any topic that strikes my fancy (as I said at the beginning).
It’s random by design.
My thinking around this blog is that I want to have new content on a relatively consistent basis, I can’t possibly write on one topic–let’s face it, there’s only so much you can write about email marketing that’s actually fresh. It’s an ever-moving medium, but the best practices aren’t changing daily (that’s not enough time to test).
My friend George said it best: “That’s the perfect name for your website. You have opinions about everything!”
And I do. Just wait until football season starts.
Anyway, I’m just throwing this together because 1) I don’t want you faithful readers to be thrown off thinking I’m going to harp on one subject the whole time; 2) I’m all about setting expectations (see #1); and 3) Frankly, I’m really burned out from work this week, and this is all I could think of.
However, in the spirit of providing some value and some news, here are some things I have planned for the blog down the road:
1. Podcasts – I want to interview people over Skype or whatever and talk shop, whether it’s email marketing, sports, politics, or whatever. Short interviews. I want to ask people how they got their start, future plans, etc. Just to spice things up. (By the way, if you know of some good, cheap, USB-driven Podcasting equipment, throw me some info. Greatly appreciated!)
2. Guest Posts – Particularly after the baby comes, I have thoughts of allowing my wife to put up some guest posts that talk about motherhood, crazy baby stuff, etc. She’s an English major; I’m not worried. (In the spirit of one of my favorite writers, ESPN’s the Sports Guy Bill Simmons, who has let “The Sports Gal” have a post or two every once in a while.
3. Template 2.0 – I like this template for now. But I have a lot of CSS and PHP to learn before I put up a new design. Don’t worry; the boxes aren’t going away. Just want more hands-on capabilities with this.
If you have any ideas about the blog, or thoughts about concepts/topics, let me know. I’d be happy to give you my opinion. I can’t guarantee you’ll like it, but I’ll at least try to keep it somewhat lighthearted.
(And yes, DJ, I’m going to make sure you can subscribe to the feed via email)
